Garden critters from 5 July are a hoverfly, an earwig, a speckled bush-cricket, a juvenile cross garden spider, and green bottle flies.
Green bottle flies
A favorite spider of SHI is the Cross garden spider, with the magnificent, iconic cross pattern on its back. It’s an orb-weaver spider. Cross garden spiders are beneficial to gardens because they eat pests. They might look frightening and creepy but they are harmless to humans. This spider rarely bites unless provoked, and the bite is mild.
Today’s garden pics include more ants milking aphids, speckled bush-cricket nymph, Japanese beetle, and a green bottle fly.
